Paralysis
I didn’t imagine it after all she said
Lying on her hospital bed
A spinal injury
Not from some catastrophic fall
But her immune system
Had gone all Battlestar Galactica
Attacking her spinal-chord
As if Cylons had landed
Space invaders
Twelve years old
Her life put on hold
I didn’t imagine it after all she said
Lying on her hospital bed
I often wonder what she would be doing
Right now
If this rare illness hadn’t reared its
Ugly head
Then I push it down because
What’s the use of
What ifs
When we are living in
The here and now’s
I didn’t imagine it after all mum
It wasn’t all in my head
Like the doctors and nurses said
When the paralysis spread
And I couldn’t move my right leg
